ElDorado National (ENC), a subsidiary of REV Group, will show its new Axess EVO-BE electric bus at the upcoming Zero-emission Bus Conference (ZEB Con).
The Axess EVO-BE is a low-floor bus designed for transit and shuttle applications. It’s available in 32-foot, 35-foot and 40-foot versions, and multiple configurations for passenger seating and wheelchair accommodations. It features 738 kWh of energy storage. (The company also makes the Axess EVO-FC, a fuel cell bus.)
ENC is one of several commercial EV-makers that use Proterra Powered technology in their vehicles. EV fans were dismayed by Proterra’s recent bankruptcy filing. What do the company’s woes mean for customers who’ve ordered Proterra buses, or other EVs that use Proterra’s tech?
Julie Nuernberg, REV Group’s Senior Director, Marketing and Communications, isn’t worried. “The Axess EVO-BE on display at ZEB Con does have Proterra Powered components,” she told Charged. “ENC is closely monitoring the situation, and we remain optimistic about Proterra’s future. Proterra has shared that they plan to maintain normal business operations through the Chapter 11 process, and we currently anticipate no disruption of Proterra’s supply of battery systems to ENC impacting current or future orders.”
Bankruptcy doesn’t mean that a company disappears—at least not when said company has valuable technology and an established customer base. (In fact, several prestigious automakers have gone through the bankruptcy process more than once.) Companies are recapitalized, restructured and/or sold off to other companies, and if all goes well, deliveries and warranties should be honored.
“We are excited to showcase the new Axess EVO-BE and our latest zero-emission technology at this year’s ZEB Con,” said ENC’s VP of Sales Mike Ammann. “This event is the perfect opportunity to show leaders in the drive for electrification the advanced performance and superior capabilities of our new battery-electric bus.”
