In March, Polestar (Nasdaq: PSNY) revealed an electric roadster concept called the O₂. Now the company has confirmed that a production version is expected to launch in 2026 as the Polestar 6 electric performance roadster.
The hard-top convertible will be built on Polestar’s bespoke bonded aluminum platform. Developed in-house, it will feature an 800-volt architecture. Expected performance specs include up to 650 kW (884 hp) of power and 900 Nm of torque from a dual motor powertrain, a targeted 0-100 km/h time of 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h.
Polestar is now accepting reservations for “build slots.”
“With the overwhelming consumer and press response, we took the decision to put this stunning roadster into production and I am so excited to make it a reality,” says Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO. “Polestar 6 is a perfect combination of powerful electric performance and the thrill of fresh air with the top down.”
Polestar plans to launch one new EV per year, starting with Polestar 3, an SUV, which is expected to debut in October 2022. Polestar 4, a smaller performance SUV coupe, is to follow in 2023, and Polestar 5, a 4-door GT, is slated for 2024. The company hopes to reduce its climate impact with every new model, and aims to produce a truly climate-neutral car by 2030.
