Siemens provides charging infrastructure to two North Carolina transit agencies

Siemens has provided North Carolina-made charging infrastructure for two of the state’s largest transit operators, GoRaleigh and the Charlotte Area Transit System.  Siemens eMobility manufactured the chargers at its Wendell, North Carolina manufacturing hub.

GoRaleigh operates 27 bus routes in the state capital. Last year, the agency took delivery of five Proterra electric buses. Siemens installed 3 DC plug-in fast chargers and 6 dispensers at the GoRaleigh transit hub facility. The company will also install its SICHARGE UC modular charging solution later this spring.

The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) is currently piloting 18 new electric buses from three different manufacturers, and eventually plans to electrify its entire bus fleet. Siemens provided 4 SICHARGE UC chargers and 8 dispensers for the agency. CATS has been operating Siemens Mobility’s S700 streetcars for several years.

“Siemens is growing to help meet the demand we’re seeing for electrified transportation in North Carolina and beyond and as a result, we’re really proud to bring high-skilled, well-paying jobs to the region,” said John DeBoer, head of Siemens eMobility in North America.
